Andrea Loughry knows what it takes to create and sustain a successful business.
Loughry and a partner started an independent insurance agency from scratch in 1978. In 1988, she partnered with Eddie Miller to purchase an agency that had been founded in 1949. That partnership became Miller & Loughry Insurance and Services Inc., Murfreesboro’s oldest independent insurance agency.
Becoming a member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce was one of the first things Loughry did when she launched her business, a move that she says gave her a starting level of credibility as a businessperson. “The chamber is the network of people that make it happen,” Loughry says.
Loughry is one of the driving forces behind the Mind2Marketplace initiative, an organization dedicated to helping bring the brightest and best ideas in technology to reality, with jobs creation as the ultimate goal.
Rutherford County earns high marks from Loughry for its support of women entrepreneurs. She espouses a simple formula learned early in school for succeeding in business – play fair, be a team player and follow the rules.
“Realizing the market has ups and downs, one has to be prepared to make it through the times that are less invigorating than others,” she says.
