Rutherford County Is Open For Business and Welcomes You
Published Jul 22, 2008

The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to the 14th edition of the Rutherford County Economic Guide, a resource for working and living in Tennessee’s fastest-growing community.

Rutherford County continues to set the pace for growth in Tennessee. The county’s 2008 population stood at 241,355 — a nearly 26 percent increase from 2000 — and it ranked No. 1 among Tennessee counties for its rate of growth.

Rutherford County is a clear destination of choice for investment, expansion and corporate headquarters location. Household names with deep roots in the county include Nissan, Ingram, Bridgestone/Firestone and State Farm. In 2007 alone, seven new companies and four existing employers announced projects totaling $104 million in new industrial investment and creating more than 1,000 new direct jobs in Rutherford County.

In addition, major retail developments in Murfreesboro and Smyrna will bring 1.3 million square feet of additional shopping space to the marketplace. Average household income topped $69,000 in the community.

With 23,000 students and 800 faculty members, Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro provides a major education and research asset for the region.

Rutherford County is the geographic and population center of Tennessee. Three-quarters of the nation’s population is within a day’s drive and access to markets is a snap with easy access to three major interstates. La Vergne is home to the county’s largest industrial park, including one of the largest distribution centers in the Southeast.

This guide includes listings for more than 100 industrial, office and retail sites, as well as some yet-to-be-developed property.

The county’s workforce numbers nearly 121,000, up 19.4 percent since 2000. Rutherford County consistently outperforms national economic indicators, testament to the county’s pro-business climate. “Evidenced by continuing and steady economic growth for more than a decade, the climate for business in Rutherford County, Tenn., is one of the best in the nation,” says Holly Weber, vice president of economic development for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

Weber invites inquiries from prospective relocating companies.
